Overview
Lead I&C (Instrumentation & Controls) Software Support Engineer role within the I&C Engineering team of the GE Hitachi (GEH) Engineering organization. The I&C team designs and implements electronic hardware and software for I&C systems for Nuclear Power Plants. The I&C Software team interfaces with electronic hardware design and plant system operations. This role requires technical problem solving, strong software testing and development skills, and effective communication/collaboration with other GEH teams.
Responsibilities- The Lead I&C Software Support Engineer is responsible for the delivery of high-quality engineering software. Work scope typically includes the following essential responsibilities:
- Development and deployment of special purpose Software Test tools within the Software team.
- Configure, Maintain, and improve the Software Development infrastructure (Dev Ops).
- Perform Unit/Module and Integration testing of Software packages in support of I&C deliverables.
- Develop creative solutions and reduce complexity to create accurate and effective solutions for complex engineering problems.
- Prepare Specifications, Reports, etc., in support of the Software Lifecycle.
- Perform Code Reviews, Documentation reviews, and other verification activities.
- Work with the technical leader to establish an effective work plan, including time estimates, schedule estimates, requirements and work processes.
- Manage time effectively to provide quality deliverables within the expected project timeline. Communicate effectively to leadership the status of work activities.
- Engage customers to define scope, review results, and discuss technical risks
- Effectively manage multiple priorities.
- Bachelor's Degree in electrical, computer or software engineering from an accredited college or university.
- 5 years of experience in software testing, development, and deployment.
- 3 years of experience with coding conventions, unit testing and integration testing of software.
- 3 years of experience with Static Analysis and Unit Testing Tools (LDRA) and Software development infrastructure (Git Lab).
- The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered within 200 miles of Wilmington.
- This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
- Knowledge of common computer languages (C, C++, Python) and software development tools (Version control, IDEs, Debuggers, etc.).
- Solves technical challenges through application of common design patterns and identifying appropriate patterns for use in problem solving.
- Effective use of data structures and algorithms.
- Experience understanding coding standards that meets and delivers desired functionality using technology selected for the project.
- Experience meeting Industry Coding Standard - MISRA, CERT-C, BARR-C.
- Experience with software development in a regulated environment.
- Leadership experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills and ability to articulate clearly.
- Contributes to creative solutions and challenges status quo.
- Proactively learns new tools and identifies opportunities for improvement and promotes their adoption.
