Position: MarineQuest Summer Program Bus Driver 2026

Marine Quest Summer Program Bus Driver 2026

This temporary position will involve operating a New Hanover County activity bus or passenger van to safely transport program participants between events and locations according to the program schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Work as a team with Marine Quest instructors and other bus drivers.
  • Remain with the bus or group during work hours.
  • Maintain general cleanliness and upkeep of the vehicle.
  • Report maintenance needs to supervisors immediately.
  • Adhere to all New Hanover County School Bus policies and procedures, as well as UNCW Marine Quest policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • Commercial NC Driver’s License.
  • Experience transporting K-12 students on an activity bus.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (preferred).
  • Interest in marine environments (preferred).
Compensation and Hours

Pay range: $17–$19 per hour.
Half‑day position: 7:15 AM–12:15 PM, Monday–Friday (20–25 hours).
Full‑day position: 7:15 AM–4:15 PM, Monday–Thursday and 7:15 AM–1:45 PM, Friday (40 hours).
Evening position: 6 PM–9:15 PM or 7:15 AM–9:00 AM, Friday (5–15 hours).

Temporary Position Details

Temporary assignments cannot exceed 11 consecutive months without a full 31‑day break.
Employees in temporary positions are not considered permanent state employees and do not earn leave.
Temporary employees are subject to Affordable Care Act guidelines.

Eligibility and Documentation
  • Final candidates subject to criminal & sex offender background checks.
  • Required document:
    Commercial NC Driver's License.
  • Optional documents: resume, cover letter.
