Structural FItter

Our client is a well-established steel fabrication company seeking a Structural Steel Fitter to join their shop team in Wilson, NC. This role puts you at the center of the work, building the structural and miscellaneous steel that goes into structural building projects across North Carolina. The ideal candidate takes pride in precise layout work, reads drawings with confidence, and is looking for a stable, long-term home in the trade.

Job Responsibilities - - Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols to plan each assembly.

- Lay out, measure, and mark structural members such as beams, columns, plates, and angles.

- Fit and tack weld components to tolerance in preparation for final welding.

- Cut, grind, drill, and torch material using standard shop tools and equipment.

- Operate overhead cranes and rigging to safely move and position heavy steel.

- Verify dimensions, square, and alignment against drawing specifications.

- Coordinate with welders and shop leads to keep projects on schedule.

- Follow all shop safety practices, including PPE requirements and housekeeping standards.

Job Requirements - - 3+ years of structural steel fitting experience in a fabrication shop.

- Ability to accurately read blueprints, shop drawings, and weld symbols.

- Proficiency with tape measures, squares, levels, and other layout tools.

- Working knowledge of tack welding (MIG or FCAW) and torch cutting.

- Comfort working around overhead cranes and rigging equipment.

- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

- AWS D1.1 certification a plus.

- Experience with miscellaneous metals such as stairs, rails, and platforms preferred.
