Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) – Harmony Park at Wilson
Purpose of Role
The primary purpose of this position is to provide each of your assigned residents with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the resident’s assessment and care plan, and any other duties directed by your supervisor.

- Administrative Functions
- Use the wristband or photo card file to identify residents before administering treatments, serving meals, etc.
- Record all entries on flow sheets, notes, charts, and computer programs in an informative and descriptive manner.
- Use only authorized abbreviations established by the Facility when recording information.
- Report all changes in the resident’s condition to the Nurse Supervisor, LPN, or RN as soon as possible.
- Report all accidents and incidents observed on the shift.
- Admission, Transfer, and Discharge Functions
- Ensure the resident’s room is ready for receiving the resident (e.g., bed made, name tags up, admission kit available).
- Greet residents and escort them to their room.
- Introduce resident to his/her roommate and other residents and personnel as appropriate.
- Make resident comfortable (e.g., put to bed, get water).
- Inventory and mark the resident’s personal possessions as instructed.
- Store resident’s clothing.
- Assist residents with packing personal possessions for transfer or discharge.
- Transport residents to new rooms or to the receiving area.
- Assist with loading and unloading residents from vehicles as necessary.
- Personnel Functions
- Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Follow work assignments and schedules.
- Cooperate with inter‑departmental personnel to maintain nursing services.
- Meet with shift nursing personnel regularly to identify and correct problem areas.
- Report all complaints and grievances made by residents.
- Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals.
- Personal Nursing Care Functions
- Assist residents with daily dental and oral care, bathing, dressing, hair care, nail care, shaving, and maintaining dryness.
- Assist residents with bedfast positioning, bowel and bladder functions, intake and output records, and monitoring of vital signs.
- Provide eye and ear care, clean eyeglasses, apply compresses, and assist with medication administration if instructed.
- Assist new employees in following facility policies and procedures.
- Special Nursing Care Functions
- Observe and report pressure areas, skin breakdowns, and injuries of unknown source.
- Provide daily indwelling catheter and perineal care.
- Perform nonsterile vaginal irrigation or douches, assist with slings, and apply splints.
- Give tepid sponge baths and provide daily range‑of‑motion exercises.
- Turn bedfast residents at least every two hours and perform diabetic urine testing.
- Provide physical and respiratory therapy.
- Provide reality orientation and monitor room temperature, ventilation, lighting.
- Food Service Functions
- Prepare residents for meals, serve food trays, assist with feeding, and maintain cleanliness.
- Record resident food and fluid intake and report changes in eating habits.
- Keep water pitchers clean and in easy reach; serve between meals and snacks.
- Perform after‑meal care such as tray removal, hand cleaning, brushing teeth, and clothing transition.
- Check rooms for food articles and unauthorized food items.
- Staff Development
- Attend and participate in scheduled training, orientation, and in‑service programs to maintain current certification.
- Safety and Sanitation
- Participate in in‑service training and wash hands before and after services.
- Identify and report hazardous conditions, infection control, and isolation precautions.
- Store tools, equipment, supplies properly; perform housekeeping duties related to nursing care.
- Use PPE appropriately when lifting or moving residents.
- Equipment and Supply Functions
- Use only trained equipment and necessary supplies; avoid waste.
