Position: Tree Trimmer I-III

The hiring ranges for this position are:

Tree Trimmer I: $37,029.36 (minimum) – $50,972.15 (midpoint)

Tree Trimmer II: $40,873.48 (minimum) – $56,289.00 (midpoint)

Tree Trimmer III: $47,400.71 (minimum) – $65,277.98 (midpoint)

The purpose of this position is to perform technical duties in the trimming and removal of trees in support of the installation, repair, and maintenance of electric distribution equipment. Success in this position provides for the safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of electric utilities. The work consists of related duties in the pruning and removal of trees. Work performed in inclement weather contributes to the complexity of the position.

Major Duties

  • Trims and removes trees to protect city electrical lines; clears right of way for the installation of new lines; cuts limbs and operates chipper.
  • Maintains equipment, including bucket truck, saws, ropes, climbing gear, saddle, pruners, axe, and safety gear.
  • Places barricades and signs at job sites.
  • Trims and digs out protruding tree roots.
  • Responds to after-hours emergency calls.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Guidelines include city ordinances, policies, and procedures, relevant federal and state laws and regulations, OSHA standards, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

Supervisory/Management Responsibility

  • None
Tree Trimmer II

Major Duties

  • Performs necessary trimming and pruning to eliminate hazards and interference to utility easements;
  • Removes dead, broken and overhanging branches and tops trees using a variety of tools; participates in the care of trees;
  • Operates an aerial bucket as necessary to trim, prune or dismember trees for felling;
  • Uses all tools of the trade, including ladders, ropes, power chainsaws, band saws, axes, shovels, block and tackle;
  • Keeps such tools sharp and in good repair;
  • Drives a truck and operates allied automotive equipment in connection with work;
  • Trims and digs out protruding tree roots;
  • Performs related tasks as required.
