Rec Aide: Lifeguard -Head

Wilson is a city of around 50,000 people located in the heart of eastern North Carolina. We are about an hour from the Research Triangle and the buzz of the Raleigh area, and you can also quickly reach the North Carolina beaches.

The City of Wilson is known for innovation and outstanding service. We have top-rated, nationally accredited police, fire and recreation departments. Our parks and sports facilities are among the best in the nation, and our Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park is a unique and beautiful attraction that hosts concerts, farmers markets and the N.C. Whirligig Festival among other events. We are in the process of building a downtown field to host a Milwaukee Brewers’ minor league team starting in 2026.

Wilson has the strongest manufacturing base in our part of the state, including tire manufacturing, pharmaceutical and other industries. The Greenlight citywide broadband services help technology-based companies flourish.

This position assists in the aquatic needs as a certified lifeguard for the Parks and Recreation Department.

Major Duties

Specific duties of the position include but are not limited to:

• Open the pool each day and close it down each evening, depending on schedule and hours
• Monitor pool-related activities closely throughout shift and identify any safety issues
• Direct swimmers out of the pool in hazardous conditions
• Monitor weather reports closely to ensure safety of guests
• Provide swimming lessons when available
• Maintain a clean environment in and around the pool
• Provide assistance to patrons when appropriate or necessary

Education/Experience Requirements

• Applicants must provide a copy of a valid Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
• It is highly desirable that candidates have a CPO certification as well as experience teaching swim lessons or coaching swim team.
• Candidates must be willing to work a flexible schedule with preference to those available to work morning shifts Monday– Friday, 5:30 AM to 10 AM.

Must be able to perform daily tasks which include the following bodily movements: sits, stand, reach, turn, climb, bend, squat, stoop, kneel, crawl, push and pull frequently, grasp objects, use fine manipulation, write and operate office machines and equipment, and strength to safely perform lifting and carrying of items up to but not limited to at least 50 pounds.
