ROLE OVERVIEW

The Collins Aerospace Avionics Test Engineering organization is seeking a Principal Project Engineer. This role leads multidisciplinary teams of engineers across systems, mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines to develop complex engineering solutions. The role requires versatility across a variety of tasks in a highly collaborative environment, collaborating with engineers and leaders at locations around the globe to ensure project success.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead project technical execution and maintain performance metrics for decision making and continuous improvement purposes.
  • Manage project scope (requirements and change requests) ensuring it meets agreed to commitments.
  • Generate and maintain project schedules with understood dependencies, deliveries, and critical path.
  • Utilize Earned Value (EV) methods for managing project budget (and schedule).
  • Ensure project meets quality expectations.
  • Identify risks and opportunities and resolve them through proactive ownership.
  • Prepare well-crafted presentations reporting project status to leadership teams.
  • Develop Engineering estimates and proposals for potential projects and gaining organizational buy-in.
QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
  • 7+ years of Electrical, Mechanical, Software, or Systems engineering experience.
  • 7+ years of project management experience. Fundamental project management skills including baseline control, earned value, and risk management.
QUALIFICATIONS WE PREFER
  • Mastery of Agile process and principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project.
  • Proficiency in Jira.
  • Problem-solving skills with ability to proactively identify alternate solutions to overcome difficult technical challenges.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve operational goals.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience using analytical and problem-solving skills to effectively identify and resolve issues and mitigate risks.
  • Proven ability to facilitate difficult conversations and communicate early and concisely with individuals at all organizational levels.
