ROLE OVERVIEWThe Collins Aerospace Avionics Test Engineering organization is seeking a Principal Project Engineer. This role leads multidisciplinary teams of engineers across systems, mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines to develop complex engineering solutions. The role requires versatility across a variety of tasks in a highly collaborative environment, collaborating with engineers and leaders at locations around the globe to ensure project success.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Lead project technical execution and maintain performance metrics for decision making and continuous improvement purposes.
- Manage project scope (requirements and change requests) ensuring it meets agreed to commitments.
- Generate and maintain project schedules with understood dependencies, deliveries, and critical path.
- Utilize Earned Value (EV) methods for managing project budget (and schedule).
- Ensure project meets quality expectations.
- Identify risks and opportunities and resolve them through proactive ownership.
- Prepare well-crafted presentations reporting project status to leadership teams.
- Develop Engineering estimates and proposals for potential projects and gaining organizational buy-in.
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
- 7+ years of Electrical, Mechanical, Software, or Systems engineering experience.
- 7+ years of project management experience. Fundamental project management skills including baseline control, earned value, and risk management.
- Mastery of Agile process and principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project.
- Proficiency in Jira.
- Problem-solving skills with ability to proactively identify alternate solutions to overcome difficult technical challenges.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve operational goals.
- Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience using analytical and problem-solving skills to effectively identify and resolve issues and mitigate risks.
- Proven ability to facilitate difficult conversations and communicate early and concisely with individuals at all organizational levels.
