The Collins Aerospace Avionics Test Engineering organization has an opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer leading multidisciplinary teams of engineers (including systems, mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines) developing complex engineering solutions. This role requires versatility across a variety of tasks in a highly collaborative environment, collaborating with engineers and leaders at locations around the globe to ensure project success.
The Avionics Test Engineering organization is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of manufacturing test solutions supporting the $5B Avionics strategic business unit and external customers, including armed services and airlines. As a key member of the Avionics Test Engineering team, you will ensure the successful execution of test solution projects from inception through deployment and long‑term support.
Typical test solutions include Optical, In‑Circuit Test, Boundary Scan, and COTS components such as switch systems, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies and other related equipment, coupled with custom software for performing Environmental Stress Screening and testing circuit card assemblies and top‑level products.
Key Responsibilities- Lead project technical execution and maintain performance metrics for decision making and continuous improvement.
- Manage project scope, requirements and change requests to ensure commitments are met.
- Generate and maintain project schedules with dependencies, deliveries, and critical path.
- Utilize Earned Value methods for managing project budget and schedule.
- Ensure projects meet quality expectations.
- Identify risks and opportunities and resolve them through proactive ownership.
- Prepare well‑crafted presentations reporting project status to leadership teams.
- Develop engineering estimates and proposals for potential projects and gain organizational buy‑in.
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree and minimum 3 years of experience, or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.
- 4+ years of Electrical, Mechanical, Software, or Systems engineering experience.
- 4+ years of project management experience, including baseline control, earned value, and risk management.
- Mastery of Agile process and principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project.
- Proficiency in Jira.
- Problem‑solving skills with the ability to proactively identify alternate solutions to overcome difficult technical challenges.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
- Detail‑oriented and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience using analytical and problem‑solving skills to identify and resolve issues and mitigate risks.
- Proven ability to facilitate difficult conversations and communicate early and concisely with individuals at all organizational levels.
