Job Summary

The Maintenance HVAC Technician is responsible for performing preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance on commercial HVAC systems and providing recommendations. The role also includes duties as a Multi‑Craft Technician covering plumbing, electrical, and general building maintenance. The technician should understand control operation and sequence of operation for commercial HVAC systems, use multiple trade communication skills, and foster strong relationships with customers, vendors, and team members.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Complete thorough preventive maintenance checks and services on all standard package and split unit HVAC systems.
  • General repairs of steam/hot water boiler systems and diagnose airflow and ducting repairs.
  • Use refrigerants safely, efficiently, and in an EPA‑compliant manner for standard package and split unit HVAC systems.
  • Diagnose and repair common mechanical, electrical, or system failure issues on standard boiler, package, and split unit HVAC systems (e.g., belts, pulleys, compressors, condensing units, circuitry boards, contractors, leaks, brazing copper components).
  • Demonstrate understanding of AC motor controls and how to maintain, test, and repair them.
  • Demonstrate understanding of VFDs and how to install, maintain, and troubleshoot.
  • Complete preventive maintenance and repairs per work order requirements.
  • Perform service inspections and asset inspections as needed.
  • Fully utilize technology (tablet, smartphone).
  • Access and complete work orders, including notes on services provided.
  • Create and submit service reports and quality inspection images and reports.
  • Create a positive climate with the client, provide and generate customer satisfaction, and maintain timely and consistent communication with customer and internal support teams.
  • Obtain and complete required safety and compliance training and attend safety meetings; adhere to all building codes, state/federal guidelines, and company‑client policies and procedures.
  • Complete other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent professional experience in trades (Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, etc.).
  • Five or more years of HVAC experience in commercial/industrial/manufacturing service.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, safety policies, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; effectively present information in individual and small group situations.
  • Maintain adequate knowledge of and comply with OSHA standards and company safety policies.
  • EPA Universal certification.
  • Must possess applicable certifications, licenses, and a valid driver’s license in good standing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer‑service orientation.

Work Environment

The technician regularly stands at eight‑hour intervals, walks, uses hands to finger, handle, or feel, reaches with hands and arms, stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls, and talks or hears. The individual frequently climbs stairs and ladders, and must regularly lift and/or move up to 70 pounds at higher than chest level and tolerate adverse rooftop working conditions due to climate and extreme temperature changes.
