Medical Records Clerk

Job Summary

We are looking for a highly organised and detail-oriented Medical Records Clerk to support the efficient management, maintenance and processing of patient medical records. The successful candidate will ensure records are accurately maintained, confidential information is handled appropriately, and documentation is readily available to authorised healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update patient medical records accurately and efficiently.

  • File, scan and retrieve medical documentation and patient information.

  • Ensure patient records are complete, organised and up to date.

  • Process requests for medical records in line with organisational procedures.

  • Enter and update patient information on electronic systems.

  • Ensure confidentiality and data protection requirements are strictly followed.

  • Liaise with healthcare professionals, administrative teams and other relevant departments.

  • Identify missing or incomplete information and follow up where necessary.

  • Assist with transferring paper records to electronic systems.

  • Handle sensitive patient information professionally and securely.

  • Support general administrative duties within the medical records department.

  • Follow relevant NHS, GDPR, confidentiality and information governance procedures.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a medical records, healthcare administration or clerical role is desirable.

  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Good IT skills and confidence using electronic record systems.

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Previous experience within a healthcare environment is advantageous.
