Role Overview
The Council is seeking an experienced Flood Risk Engineer within the highways and sustainable transport team to support the Council’s Lead Local Flood Authority duties. The role focuses on understanding flood risk, delivering sustainable drainage and natural flood management, and supporting climate resilience and community wellbeing. The engineer is also responsible for ensuring highways drainage is operational and well maintained.
Key Responsibilities- Understand flood risk and support the Council's Lead Local Flood Authority duties.
- Deliver sustainable drainage and natural flood management solutions.
- Support climate resilience and community wellbeing initiatives.
- Ensure highways drainage is operational and well maintained.
- Demonstrate excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Collaborate with staff and stakeholders to deliver flood risk projects.
- Proven experience in flood risk management, ideally within a local authority or large public sector environment.
- Full knowledge of highways drainage, surface water drainage modelling, and Sustainable Drainage Systems.
- Excellent understanding of key legislation and policies such as the Flood Risk Management Act, the London Surface Water Strategy, and Environment Agency policies and guidance.
- Recognised professional qualification in an environmental, geographical, science or engineering discipline.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
