Practice Nurse

This practice nurse post at Tamworth House Medical Centre, a general practice of around 10,000 patients in the East Merton Primary Care Network, is an all-rounder role spanning many areas of primary care nursing. The core work is routine clinical care directed by GPs, covering chronic disease reviews, immunisations, wound care, cytology, ECGs and minor surgery support. Its distinct feature is breadth rather than one specialism, alongside keeping clinical rooms and equipment stocked and maintained.

Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council is required.

• Carry out routine patient care tasks as directed by GPs
• Manage hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease and contraception care
• Perform cytology
• Provide wound and ulcer care, Doppler, suture removal and venepuncture
• Carry out new patient medicals and urinalysis
• Run ECGs, asthma reviews, peak flow readings and spirometry
• Give routine and childhood immunisations
• Assist GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
• Request pathology tests
• Maintain and clean nurse and GP equipment
• Maintain treatment rooms, stock and general cleanliness
• Order vaccines and keep waiting room leaflets stocked
