Control Systems Engineer

Are you a skilled Control Systems Engineer looking for a role where your expertise genuinely impacts building safety? Our client is a leading specialist in smoke control systems, ventilation solutions, and building safety automation, and they are expanding their engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects, solve complex technical challenges, and contribute to the development of life safety systems used across the UK.

The Role

Working as part of a collaborative engineering team, you’ll support the design, development, programming, and delivery of smoke control and building safety systems. This is a varied role with plenty of technical depth — ideal for an engineer who enjoys problem‑solving and seeing their work come to life from concept to commissioning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, validate, and advise on electrical control systems to meet project and safety requirements.
  • Review and approve electrical documentation including wiring diagrams, cause & effect matrices, and equipment schedules.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners to define system architecture and third‑party interfaces.
  • Produce AutoCAD control panel drawings and specify components for manufacturing.
  • Program, configure, and deploy PLC & HMI systems (preferably Siemens TIA Portal or similar).
  • Configure integrated equipment such as VSDs, sensors, and detection systems.
  • Conduct software integration and factory testing of control panels.
  • Troubleshoot commissioning issues and provide technical support, including occasional site visits.
  • Contribute to product development through simulation testing, debugging, and system optimisation.
Experience & Skills Required
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or related discipline.
  • Hands‑on experience in control panel design and automation software platforms.
  • Strong competence in control system programming (ladder logic, structured text, function block, HMI visualisation).
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus.
  • Proficiency with electrical design CAD tools (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, etc.).
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities, especially under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Why Join?
  • Work on innovative, safety‑critical systems that make a real difference.
  • Opportunity to support full project life cycles — from design to deployment.
  • Collaborative and supportive engineering team.
  • Professional development and exposure to cutting‑edge building safety technology.
