Clinical Laboratory Supervisor )
Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, just outside Lexington, KY is searching for a Clinical Laboratory professional to join our management team as a Laboratory Supervisor. This is a full‑time opportunity on day shift. You would work with a strong and high‑functioning team in a lab that serves the needs of the hospital and performs testing and other functions for physicians and organizations in the community.
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree, 7–10 years experience in a clinical laboratory setting, and acceptable certification such as MT, MLS (ASCP), MT (AMT), MR (HEW), or MR (NCA).
Essential Functions- Assist the Laboratory Director with obtaining and maintaining compliance with the Joint Commission, hiring new staff, staff scheduling, and payroll management.
- Determine, coordinate, and supervise daily staffing assignments and levels necessary to meet productivity goals and patient care needs.
- Lead the handling and resolution of complex issues and complaints.
- Assess and ensure quality of services delivered and facilitate staff development programs. Ensure staff compliance with departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Utilize critical‑thinking skills to assist the Laboratory Director with technical and logistical issues regarding staffing, quality, and Joint Commission compliance.
- Provide direction, orientation, training, coaching, and mentoring to staff. Perform or assist with performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
- Perform staff responsibilities as needed to fulfill required service levels.
- Oversee and review the performance of quality control and assist staff with taking necessary corrective action when controls are outside acceptable limits.
- Review instrument and equipment maintenance logs monthly and assist staff with daily instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Instruct and train new employees and coordinate competency assessment performance and provide educational in‑services as needed.
- Coordinate and oversee the performance of quarterly and annual laboratory equipment checks per established laboratory policy.
- Troubleshoot, resolve, and/or report equipment malfunctions as necessary.
- Participate in hospital‑wide and departmental performance‑improvement activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
- Seven to ten years of laboratory experience in high‑complexity testing within specialties or subspecialties of microbiology, chemistry, hematology, serology, coagulation, urinalysis, and blood banking, with proven technical and leadership skills.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, ability to work independently, in a stressful environment, and to communicate with a wide range of individuals professionally.
- Certification as MT or MLS (ASCP) or MT (AMT) or MT (HEW) or MT (NCA).
