Position: Registered Nurse (RN) Emergency Department (ER)

Highpoint Health with Ascension Saint Thomas has an opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join our Emergency Services team.

Highpoint Health – Winchester and Highpoint Health – Sewanee serve the communities of Southern Middle Tennessee with comprehensive, high‑quality care. Highpoint Health – Winchester is a 157‑bed facility, fully accredited by The Joint Commission, and offers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. Highpoint Health – Sewanee is a 41‑bed facility located on the campus of the University of the South and serves more than 5,000 patients annually through its 4‑bay Emergency Department.

Job Description
  • Provides direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.
  • Performs charted care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care.
  • Documents patient care provided.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to the care team, physician, patient, and family as appropriate.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well‑being of the patient.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including duties of the CNA, MA, LPN or other nursing staff on occasion.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, in‑service training, projects, and committees as assigned.
  • Adheres to and supports the policies and procedures of Highpoint Health with Ascension Saint Thomas.
  • Works scheduled shifts, including overtime when necessary; accepts all call schedule as directed.
  • Maintains a neat and professional appearance in compliance with the existing dress code.
  • Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens is present for all employees while performing this job.
  • Compliance with Highpoint Health with Ascension Saint Thomas Standards of Behavior and Dress Code Standards is required.
  • Should this job description be filled by a PRN employee, they will be subject to the requirements of that position.
  • Reports to the Director of the Emergency Department.
Minimum Education
  • Associate's degree required.
  • BSN preferred.
Required Skills
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Certifications
  • AHA Basic Life‑Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.
  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life‑Support (ACLS) within 6 months of hire.
  • AHA Pediatric Advanced Life‑Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire.
  • TNCC preferred.
Licenses
  • Current and active Registered Nurse Licensure for the State of Tennessee.
