Planning Consultant
Winchester | £29,000–£38,000
An independent planning practice in Winchester is looking for a Planning Consultant to join its close-knit team. The workload is varied, the client contact is genuine and good people are trusted with responsibility early.
The opportunityThe team’s workload includes residential, commercial, rural, heritage and neighbourhood planning. The central purpose of the position is to gain broad experience in a supportive independent practice with early client exposure.
- Prepare clear planning appraisals, statements and strategic advice.
- Manage planning applications and coordinate technical inputs.
- Maintain regular, professional communication with clients and project teams.
- Negotiate constructively with local planning authorities and other stakeholders.
- Support larger instructions while steadily increasing your own project responsibility.
Planning qualification; good research and writing; some practical experience desirable. You should also be organised, dependable and able to explain planning issues in straightforward language. The business is interested in people who value good advice and long‑term client relationships rather than unnecessary internal politics.
You are not expected to know everything on day one. What matters is a sound academic base, some practical understanding of the planning system and the judgement to ask for support when needed.
Package and working arrangementsThe salary is £29,000–£38,000. The wider package includes flexible working, pension, RTPI support and regular training. Exact arrangements will depend on experience and will be discussed openly during the process.
