Job Description & How to Apply Below

Due to continued growth and project success, Ridge has an exciting opportunity for a BREEAM Assessor to join our expanding Sustainability team in Winchester. This role is ideal for someone at the early stages of their sustainability career who is eager to learn, develop, and contribute to an award‑winning multi‑disciplinary consultancy as well as for an experienced assessor who is keen to take the next step and help us strengthen and grow our BREEAM and wider Sustainability Assessment offering.

You will work closely with our Sustainability team to support the delivery of high‑quality environmental assessments across a diverse portfolio of projects. For early‑career candidates this is a fantastic opportunity to build strong technical foundations in BREEAM with structured support and mentoring.

For more experienced assessors, the role offers the chance to take ownership of assessments, contribute to best‑practice development, and play a key role in shaping our approach as the service line continues to expand.

About The Team

Our Sustainability team provides a wide range of advisory services to clients, design teams, contractors, and Ridge’s own multi‑disciplinary project teams. We support projects from early concept through to handover, helping shape Sustainability strategies for individual buildings and large property portfolios.

You will be part of a collaborative, supportive team working across multiple sectors including education, defence, commercial offices, industrial, hospitality, leisure, infrastructure and healthcare.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver and support sustainability assessments including BREEAM, DREAM, WELL and Fitwel.
  • Prepare clear, concise technical reports, briefing notes, and supporting documentation.
  • Provide sustainability advice to internal and external project stakeholders.
  • Contribute to planning support documents such as Energy Statements, Sustainability Reports and Whole Life Carbon Reports.
  • Support the development of project‑specific sustainability strategies.
  • Engage with wider Sustainability themes, with opportunities to develop expertise in:
    • Dynamic thermal modelling using IES VE or Elmhurst (thermal comfort, Part L compliance, CIBSE TM54).
    • Embodied carbon and net zero carbon strategies, including whole life carbon assessments.
    • Circular economy principles.
    • Industry engagement (e.g., UKGBC working groups).
    • Health, wellbeing and social value.
    • Broader ESG‑related initiatives.
Experience & Skills
  • Experience or exposure to the built environment sector (e.g., consultancy, design, construction, or academic projects).
  • Training or foundational knowledge in BREEAM or similar sustainability assessment methodologies.
  • Strong attention to detail and a genuine passion for sustainable building design.
  • Ability to produce well‑structured written reports and communicate clearly with project teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
