Join Hampshire's Traffic and Safety Team – Deliver Innovative Solutions, Improve Road Safety, and Help Keep Hampshire Moving.

The Role:

Hampshire County Council is looking to recruit within our Safer Roads and Parking Team as part of the Traffic and Safety Group. We are looking for talented and motivated individuals to help shape the future of our communities.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team and play a key part in keeping Hampshire moving and making the roads safer. In an engineering role you will assist in the delivery and monitoring of the Traffic and Safety scheme programmes, be involved in identifying, devising and delivering schemes and initiatives that will enhance the safety and efficiency of the road network for all highway users, as well as providing support for other highways and transport functions.

This will include working closely with our external partner organisations such as the Police, District and Borough Councils, and other public bodies and representatives, as well as internal partner groups.

We would love to hear from applicants who want to be part of a successful road safety and community focused Traffic and Safety Team.

What you’ll do:

Join our team and play a key role in shaping safer, smarter and more efficient transport networks for our communities. In this varied and rewarding role, you will help develop and deliver traffic, road safety and parking schemes from initial concept through to implementation, ensuring projects are technically sound, cost-effective and meet local needs. You will provide expert advice to County, District and Parish Councils, elected members, residents and a wide range of partners, while investigating traffic and parking concerns and identifying practical solutions.

Working within national and local policies, standards and regulations, you will contribute to the design and delivery of both routine and complex schemes, managing technical processes, statutory requirements and budgets to help create safer and more accessible roads for everyone.

What we’re looking for:

We're seeking a motivated and proactive professional with a passion for improving road safety and transport outcomes. You'll bring relevant qualifications and/or practical experience in traffic management, safety engineering, highway engineering, or a related field, together with a strong understanding of the policies, regulations and guidance that shape the industry.

The ideal candidate will have experience designing and delivering traffic management, road safety or highway engineering schemes and initiatives, and an appreciation of programme development and project management principles. You'll be confident using Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel and Word, as well as virtual collaboration tools such as Teams, Zoom or similar platforms.

You'll be a clear and effective communicator, able to build positive working relationships and present information in an engaging way. Experience in research and data analysis would be beneficial, along with the ability to make sound, evidence-based judgements to support decision-making.

Most importantly, you'll be someone who can manage your own workload, work to deadlines, and use your initiative while also contributing positively as part of a collaborative and supportive team.
