Job Description & How to Apply Below
** The closing date is 22nd Feb 2026**## Job summary
If you have ever thought about working in Mental Health Liaison, but not applied previously because you were worried about the shift patterns and the impact on home life, then please make contact. We know that people will often have a number of commitments that mean they are not able to work shifts across a 24 hour period. We want to hear from you if you are limited in the working hours you can offer, to make contact to discuss this and see whether we can agree a pattern that meets both yours needs and those of the Liaison team.
## Main duties, tasks & skills required
We are looking for a liaison practitioner with some occasional weekend and night work required. This would be for a fixed 12 month period. We now offer a liaison service to not only the Emergency Department, but specialist assessment and guidance throughout all wards on both inpatient units. We are a friendly, multi-disciplinary core team of professionals including, Dual Qualified Nurses, Mental Health Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychiatrists, and administrators.
Clinical presentations of the patients we support span a wide spectrum from organic disorders, psychosis, self-harm, severe depression or somatoform disorder to adjustment reactions, delirium, dementia, and abnormal health behaviour. One of the most challenging and fascinating parts of the Liaison Practitioner role is that every day is completely different to the previous. It can sometimes be fast paced and unpredictable, but never boring.
We are a close, funny, and supportive team with opportunities for learning and development. We undertake monthly team supervision as well as regular twice monthly teaching sessions facilitated by different members of the team. Previous experience of working in mental health setting would be required, however the most important requirement is that you have the commitment to support with the ongoing expansion and development of the Liaison service and a passion for working with individuals in a recovery focussed model.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides joined-up mental and physical healthcare for around two million people across our communities. With over 13,000 staff working in the community and local hospitals, we deliver care at every stage of life, helping people live their best and healthiest lives.
Our mental health services include community-based support and early intervention in psychosis (EIP) for both adults and young people, alongside a network of specialist inpatient wards covering forensic, learning disability, eating disorder and older person's care.
We deliver extensive physical health services too, from urgent community response teams helping frail and older patients remain safely at home, to hospitals at home teams providing acute-level care in familiar surroundings. Our neurological services offer rehabilitation and treatment for conditions including Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Head Injury, Cerebral Palsy and Stroke. Across Hampshire, our community hospitals provide inpatient rehabilitation as a step down from acute care, and our dedicated teams also staff Treetops Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Portsmouth, offering expert, compassionate support.
Everything we do is underpinned by our CARE values of compassion, accountability, respect and excellence ## Job description
