About the Role
We are seeking a committed and experienced Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join our Mental Health Service. You will play a vital role in safeguarding the rights of individuals experiencing mental ill‑health, ensuring lawful, person‑centred, and least‑restrictive practice in accordance with the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended).
Working collaboratively with health, social care, police, and partner agencies, you will undertake Mental Health Act assessments and contribute to high‑quality decision‑making in complex and often pressured situations.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out Mental Health Act assessments, including applications for detention and Guardianship
Act as the decision‑maker under the Mental Health Act, ensuring legal and ethical compliance
Undertake duties under the Mental Capacity Act and associated legislation
Work in partnership with service users, carers, health professionals, and other agencies
Participate in the AMHP rota, including out‑of‑hours and emergency duties (as required)
Maintain accurate, timely, and legally robust records
Contribute to service development, training, and quality improvement initiatives
About You
You will:
Be a qualified and warranted AMHP
Be registered with Social Work England, HCPC, or NMC (as applicable)
Have substantial post‑qualifying experience in mental health services
Demonstrate sound knowledge of mental health legislation and best practice
Remain calm, analytical, and person‑centred in high‑pressure situations
Have strong communication, assessment, and decision‑making skills
Be able to work flexibly, including participation in an AMHP rota About Us
