An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Learning Disability Nurse to join the Learning Disability Hospital Liaison Service across Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This role supports patients across Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital (Winchester), and Andover War Memorial Hospital.

The base for this role is flexible and can be agreed between Basingstoke and Winchester. The post involves regular cross-site work; a shuttle bus service is available between Basingstoke and Winchester.

Across Hampshire, our community hospitals provide inpatient rehabilitation as a step down from acute care, and our dedicated teams also staff Treetops Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Portsmouth, offering expert, compassionate support.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse in Learning Disability (RNLD)
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Makaton or other communication techniques.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of supporting adults with learning disabilities in healthcare environments, with an understanding of the role of liaison in improving patient outcomes and experiences.
  • Experience of providing supportive leadership input when required to help maintain smooth service delivery in the acute hospital.
  • Ability to identify and elevate concerns appropriately, including safeguarding and incident reporting, to reduce risk and promote a culture of patient safety.
  • Ability to support and advise hospital staff in delivering high-quality, person-centred care for individuals with learning disabilities.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate complex patient-centred meetings within an acute hospital environment while effectively managing a caseload.
  • Confidence and skills to provide training to general hospital staff on topics related to learning disability.
