Colorguard​/Dance Instructor

The Shenandoah University Marching Band is seeking a Colorguard/Dance Instructor for a one-year contract stipend position. The instructor reports to the Director of Athletic Bands and Colorguard/Dance Coordinator and is responsible for instructing the Colorguard/Dance section of the band.

Responsibilities include:

• Develop movement techniques, write flag work and choreography for performances, and assist with band rehearsals.
• Collaborate with the Director of Athletic Bands, staff, and student leaders to ensure successful student outcomes.
• Attend camp, rehearsals, and performances.
• Instruct fundamental movement, flag work, and weapons techniques.
• Oversee rehearsals in sections and full band settings.
• Assist in teaching movement and choreography.
• Develop student leadership skills within the section.
• Choreograph all movement, flag, weapon, and pom routines.
• Manage equipment and communicate needs for student success.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Experience instructing Colorguard/Dance at various levels preferred.
• Choreography experience preferred.
• Experience with Flags and Poms preferred.
• Weapons experience preferred.
• Strong management, leadership, and communication skills required.

Camp and Rehearsal Schedule:

• Band Camp:
  Aug. 15-29
• Rehearsals:
  Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4-6 pm
• Occasional Fridays, 7-9 pm
• Football games on Saturdays
