Essential Job Functions
  • Manages daily classroom operations, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
  • Assesses student academic abilities and develops goals and objectives for the academic portion of the student’s IEPs.
  • Develops, plans and implements lesson plans that meet identified goals and incorporate student behavioral characteristics and communication abilities.
  • Documents and evaluates student progress and prepares reports to the treatment team.
  • Leads the work of instructional assistants and provides guidance and support.
  • Implements crisis intervention strategies and documents incidents.
  • Prepares related program reports and documentation such as incident reports, quarterly progress reports, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in special education or a related field.
  • Valid Virginia teaching license or eligibility for conditional license.
  • Preferred 1 year of experience teaching students with special educational needs, or equivalent combination.
  • Behavior management program certification (e.g., MANDT, UKERU).
  • Valid driver’s license.
