Manager, Cardiovascular Surgery – Valley Health
The Cardiovascular Surgery Manager oversees the daily operations of the cardiovascular operating room (CVOR), focusing on staff development, patient experience, budget management, program development, and quality coordination.
Responsibilities- Provide supervision of daily operations, staff development, patient experience, and budget for Cardiovascular Surgery in the Operating Room.
- Investigate risk reports and coordinate quality initiatives across the CVOR.
- Collaborate with the Infection Prevention team to investigate and reduce surgical site infections.
- Supervise registered nurses, first assistants, certified surgical technicians, and anesthesia technicians in the CVOR.
- Schedule and assign daily cases to ensure 24/7 coverage for scheduled procedures and emergencies.
- Deliver direct patient care for CVOR procedures as needed.
- Participate in the Surgical Services leadership team, supporting leadership vision and innovation projects related to Surgical Services.
- Enforce policies, set goals, and promote engagement within Surgical Services.
- Develop and implement quality and efficiency improvements for the CVOR team to enhance patient care.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field – required.
- Master’s degree in a related field – preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing or cardiovascular technology program – preferred.
- Five years of experience in cardiovascular clinical services with progressive leadership responsibilities.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in building programs, fostering staff and physician relationships, improving productivity and processes, and managing databases.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse or Registered Technologist in a Cardiovascular Discipline.
- Examples include:
Registered Nurse with an active Virginia license; or Certified Surgical Technician (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) holding a Virginia license issued by the Virginia Board of Medicine.
- Strong planning, organization, and management skills for complex functions and processes.
- Patient‑centric approach with constant focus on enhancing patient experience in all situations.
- Ability to build and maintain trusting physician relationships that drive quality outcomes and innovation.
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills applied through staff interventions to improve patient outcomes.
- Effective delegation and project management skills, ensuring timely completion of projects.
- Excellent communication abilities and developed interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in coordinating and collaborating across multiple departments.
