Job Description

The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process: including assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, evaluation, documentation and time management. They are responsible for quality communication, teamwork, leadership and professionalism. Also directs, coordinates, and implements patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.

Qualifications
  • Associates Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN or ADN) required.
  • Bachelor's Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of 1872 full‑time or part‑time hours (936 if hold BSN) of RN experience.
  • RN License required; must be licensed or eligible to practice pending licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) required; new hires must have AHA appropriate certification prior to orientation.
  • Relevant Specialty Certification preferred.
  • Competent to provide care based on the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological stages of human growth and development.
  • Competent to provide care using the nursing process.
  • Must have a reliable means of phone communication with hospital.
  • Meets all requirements of a RN I.
Responsibilities
  • Carry out the nursing process including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation and time management.
  • Communicate quality, work in teams, and demonstrate leadership and professionalism.
  • Direct, coordinate, and implement patient teaching.
  • Participate in quality/safety initiatives and activities of other health team personnel.
  • Assume responsibility as Charge Nurse, participate in unit and hospital initiatives.
  • Develop educational materials for staff/patients/family.
  • Participate in peer review for unit and develop bulletin boards or posters with educational info.
