Overview
The Home Depot is seeking a Customer Service/Sales associate. This role provides fast, friendly service by actively seeking out customers to assess their needs and provide assistance. Associates learn about products using our tools and provide information to customers to help sell an entire project. They learn how to greet, qualify, recommend, and close every customer in their department, and to handle basics in adjacent departments.
Customer Service/Sales associates maintain the in-stock condition of assigned areas, ensuring it is clean, shop-able, and safe. They are responsible for providing a safe working and shopping environment by following all safety policies and standards, completing required safety training, immediately correcting hazards or unsafe conditions, or reporting them to the Manager on Duty. They work in cooperation with their Department Supervisor and other associates in their department as well as other departments.
Specific store departments may include Building Materials, Décor, Electrical, Flooring, Garden, Hardware, Kitchen & Bath, Lumber, Millwork, Paint, Plumbing and Tool Rental. The Customer Service/Sales position types may include Department Sales, Lead Generator, Pro Account Sales, Sales Specialist, Special Services, and Customer Order Specialist.
- Greet, qualify, and assist customers; assess needs and provide appropriate product information and solutions.
- Learn product information using company tools and resources to support selling a project from start to finish.
- Introduce customers to relevant services, departments, and additional products to maximize sales opportunities.
- Maintain in-stock conditions and ensure assigned areas are clean, organized, and safe.
- Follow all safety policies and complete required safety training; report hazards or unsafe conditions to management.
- Collaborate with Department Supervisors and colleagues across departments to deliver a seamless customer experience.
- Understand and follow store procedures for handling customer orders, returns, and other transactions.
- Customer service and sales oriented with a willingness to learn and grow in a retail environment.
- Ability to greet and qualify customers, communicate effectively, and close sales when appropriate.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work as part of a team and adapt to changing priorities.
- Basic math and computer skills; familiarity with point-of-sale systems is a plus.
