The HDD Operator plays a critical role in the utilities industry by managing and executing horizontal directional drilling operations to install underground utilities with precision and safety. This position requires the operator to oversee drilling equipment, monitor drilling parameters, and ensure compliance with project specifications and safety standards. The operator collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, and field crews to achieve efficient and timely completion of drilling tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Experience operating horizontal directional drilling equipment or similar heavy machinery.
• Knowledge of safety standards and best practices related to underground utility installation.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, utility maps, and drilling plans.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification in horizontal directional drilling operations or related technical training.
• Experience working in the utilities sector, particularly in underground infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with GPS and other positioning technologies used in drilling operations.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic equipment repairs.li>
• First aid and OSHA safety certifications.

Responsibilities:

• Operate and maintain horizontal directional drilling equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and project requirements.
• Monitor drilling parameters such as pressure, torque, and fluid flow to optimize drilling performance and prevent equipment damage.
• Interpret project plans and utility maps to accurately position drilling operations and avoid existing underground utilities.
• Conduct pre-operation inspections and routine maintenance to ensure equipment safety and functionality.
• Collaborate with field teams to coordinate drilling activities, troubleshoot issues, and adjust operations as needed.
• Maintain detailed logs of drilling activities, equipment performance, and any incidents or deviations from plans.
• Adhere strictly to safety protocols and environmental regulations throughout all phases of drilling operations.
