The Guitar Teacher role is a self-employed, on-site contractor position delivering peripatetic guitar lessons in schools across Cumbria. As a self-employed contractor, you will invoice Performant Solutions Limited for sessions delivered and be responsible for managing your own tax, National Insurance, and insurance arrangements.

There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours, with work likely starting at one to two days per week depending on school demand, with the potential to grow over time.

The Guitar Teacher will deliver engaging lessons to students of varying ages and skill levels, covering technique and musical expression on the instrument. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and delivering individual lessons, preparing learning materials, assessing student progress, and providing constructive feedback. The role also involves collaborating with school staff, supporting performances and rehearsals, and ensuring that equipment is set up, maintained, and used safely.

The Guitar Teacher is expected to foster a positive, motivating classroom atmosphere that promotes musical growth and confidence.

• Strong foundation in Music Theory and general Music knowledge.
• Proficiency in Guitar & Bass Guitar performance, as well as broader Music Performance skills.
• Experience in Music Education, including lesson planning and student assessment.
• Ability to teach diverse learners with patience, clarity, and positive classroom management.
• Relevant qualification in music or music education (e.g., diploma or degree) is preferred.
• Experience teaching guitar in school or private settings is highly beneficial.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with school staff.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
