Job Summary

The Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) shall be responsible for the assessment, planning and administration of all respiratory care offered by the Respiratory Care Department. They shall provide these services to patients of all ages (neonate to geriatric) in accordance with policy and procedures. They shall function with a considerable amount of independent judgment regarding the delivery of quality patient care, reassessment of patient care needs, and education of patients and families as established by department policy and medical guidance.

Responsibilities
  • Provide respiratory care services across neonate, pediatric, adult and geriatric populations.
  • Assess patient needs, develop care plans, implement treatments, and reassess as indicated.
  • Educate patients and families about respiratory care and treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team to determine optimal patient care.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an Advanced Level Respiratory Therapist Educational Program or a two-year respiratory college program.
  • RRT registration by the NBRC.
  • Current CT state licensure as Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • ACLS within 6 months of hire.
  • Current PALS or STABLE Certification and NRP certification preferred.
  • Experience:

    New graduates with up to 1,000 clinical hours in a hospital setting are considered; experience is preferred.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions; effective communication with patients and team members.
  • Basic computer skills (email, internet, documentation).
  • Knowledge of pulmonary function testing and ability to perform tests as required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with departments, physicians and managers.
  • Critical thinking, advanced decision-making, organization, flexibility and teamwork; good time management; ability to work in a high-stress environment and handle multiple priorities.
