Correctional Maintenance Mechanic – Maine Correctional Center, Windham
Pay Grade 15: $46,966.40 to $61,776.00 (includes 15% Salary Adjustment, $2.00/hour Corrections Career Incentive and $0.60/hour Institutional Stipend)
The Department of Corrections is accepting applications for a Correctional Maintenance Mechanic position at the Maine Correctional Center, Windham, Maine.

JOB DESCRIPTION
This is structure and craft work involving the general replacement, upkeep, maintenance and repair of heating, plumbing, appliances, building controls, and buildings. Work includes monitoring resident behavior for security purposes and instructing and overseeing the activities of a resident crew engaged in maintenance and repair tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitors resident behavior for security purposes
- Instructs and oversees the activities of a resident crew engaged in maintenance and repair tasks
- Services sewage treatment plant to ensure efficient treatment plant operations
- Maintains, operates, and repairs heating and ventilating systems to ensure a comfortable and safe environment
- Repairs, maintains, and alters masonry, walls, and woodwork in buildings to ensure structural stability and meet tenant requirements
- Repairs and services laundry, kitchen, and woodshop equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation and maximize equipment availability
- Maintains hydraulic and mechanical elevators to ensure proper operation
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY
- Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices used in plumbing, welding, electrical, and general maintenance and repair work
- Knowledge of applicable building and safety codes
- Knowledge of institutional security policies and procedures
- Ability to read, understand and follow manufacturers specifications and instructions for using, cleaning, and repairing machinery and equipment
- Ability to use standard power and hand tools
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to apply general carpentry and masonry skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two (2) years’ experience in the general maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment, mechanical systems, and buildings.
LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Some positions may require specific licenses.
