Are you an FPGA/ASIC engineer looking to make a real impact in aerospace technology? Join our global team of engineers designing advanced electronic control units for cutting-edge aerospace applications. In this role, you will lead CPLD and FPGA designs, simulations, synthesis, and lab integration for high-performance systems, including processor card interfaces for digital and analog I/O, control of off-system sensors and electromechanical interface devices (EMIDs), and specialty test controllers.
Your work will support critical platforms such as vertical lift helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, engines, weapons systems, cargo, missiles, and special test equipment.
As a Principal Engineer FPGA/ASIC, you will engage in the full design life cycle from proposal development and project planning, through requirements definition (using DOORS), detailed design, and verification, to production transition and entry into service. You will lead investigations into problem reports from manufacturing and fielded systems, driving solutions that enhance reliability and performance.
We are seeking a creative, detail-oriented engineer who thrives on solving complex challenges, enjoys collaboration with a global team, and is passionate about delivering innovative, mission-critical aerospace solutions.
What You Will Do- Follow DO-254 Level A program planning documentation and ensure CPLD/FPGA designs adhere to the plans.
- Capture and document customer-flowed functional requirements and develop and document derived requirements for FPGAs.
- Design FPGA architectural diagrams and develop VHDL to implement critical design functionality.
- Develop sub-functions and test benches.
- Perform engineering timing simulations and functional analysis.
- Interface with the Verification & Validation team and Quality Engineers.
- Support project planning efforts and ensure execution according to schedule and budget.
- Create and review engineering documentation.
- Research, develop, design, and test electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks to meet business objectives and required specifications.
- Prepare documentation, including confidential descriptions or specifications of proprietary hardware or software, product development information, introduction schedules, product costs, and performance analysis.
- Perform applied engineering work, including research, development, and design of new products to ensure quality standards and business objectives are met.
- Design electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic applications.
- Produce products according to specifications using the most cost-effective and efficient methods.
- Analyze and evaluate new or improved electronic components, including circuit theory, computer design and development, instrumentation, radio communications, semiconductor devices, solid-state devices, and television systems.
- Work with a global team of engineers on electronic control units for aerospace applications to complete CPLD and FPGA designs, simulations, synthesis, place & route, and lab integration.
- Support the entire design life cycle, from project planning through entry into service and production transition.
- Support certification audits.
- Support team development and mentor junior engineers.
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer or electrical engineering.
- Experience simulating HDL and using Mentor Model Sim.
