Associate Producer / Technician – Afternoon Drive
This position is located at 825 Riverside Drive West, Windsor, Ontario, N9A 5K9. The role is full‑time and involves daily work across the Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton region. Availability for flexible hours, overtime, and short travel is required.
We are looking for an energetic, enterprising associate producer who can balance journalistic storytelling with technical expertise in live‑to‑air radio engineering. The successful candidate will identify regional news, pitch stories, coordinate guests, write scripts, conduct field interviews, and produce audio‑rich segments. As the technical lead, you will operate the studio console, troubleshoot live broadcasts, and ensure high‑quality audio delivery. Comfort on air and in high‑pressure environments is essential.
Key Responsibilities- Pitch and produce story ideas and program content, including chasing, gathering, and editing sound‑rich audio and writing current‑affairs interview scripts.
- Present on‑air as needed.
- Plan, engineer and direct live or recorded programs, ensuring audio excellence.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during broadcasts.
- Maintain equipment, facilities, sources and personnel to meet operational requirements.
- Set up and operate equipment to meet program and production goals.
- Program music, sound effects and actuality that fit the show’s mandate.
- Work flexible hours, overtime and travel as required.
- University degree or equivalent.
- 3–5 years of experience in broadcasting or a closely related industry, with at least three years in editorial chase or technical operations.
- Strong background in live and live‑to‑tape radio broadcast engineering.
- Deep knowledge of Windsor‑Essex and its local issues.
- Solid journalistic and production skills.
- Proven ability to develop stories and contacts.
- Ability to handle a variety of functions quickly, meet deadlines and remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable presenting live on air.
- Innovative use of sound and openness to new ideas.
- Self‑starter who takes direction well and works cooperatively.
- Understanding of journalistic standards and flexibility for early mornings, evenings and weekends.
