Role  Reporting to the Provost and Vice‑President, Academic, the Dean of Education provides strategic, academic, and operational leadership to the Faculty of Education. The dean will guide the faculty through significant changes in teacher education, support inclusive and collaborative governance, foster an environment where faculty and staff can excel in teaching, research, scholarship, and service, and contribute to institution‑wide initiatives such as enrolment growth, research development, and community engagement.
Key areas of oversight and responsibility    Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Indigenization and Decolonization (EDIID)  – Champion EDIID principles, fostering a culture of academic excellence and student‑centred learning, and advocating across the wider university community.
Strategic Leadership and Vision  – Provide leadership aligned with university and faculty priorities, guide policy development, establish direction, and secure resources for student learning, faculty recruitment, and program excellence.
Administrative and Fiscal Management  – Oversee operations and finance, ensure responsible stewardship of resources, and support high‑quality teaching, research, and scholarly activities.
Scholarship and Innovation  – Advance a culture of scholarship, research, and innovation, demonstrating commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigenization and Decolonization in all initiatives.
Networking and Representation  – Cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders, serve as an ambassador for the university and faculty, and participate in committees, associations, and collaborations.

The Ideal Candidate  An accomplished academic leader possessing a demonstrated commitment to educator preparation, student success, and community impact. The candidate has a track record of scholarly achievement, effective administration, and collaborative leadership, and is capable of guiding the faculty through complexity and change while balancing decisiveness with consultation. Transparency, approachability, relational style, and authenticity in community engagement are essential.
Qualifications and Experience   PhD in Education or related field.
Academic credentials appropriate for appointment as Full Professor or eligibility for such appointment.
Significant experience in academic leadership (e.g., Associate Dean, Dean, or equivalent).
Demonstrated understanding of teacher education, including program design, practicum requirements, and accreditation processes.
Experience managing human and financial resources in a complex, unionized environment.
Strong financial and operational acumen, with experience in planning and resource management.
Experience advancing research, including supporting grant development and faculty scholarship.
Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigenization in both academic and administrative contexts.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, engaging diverse audiences.
