Ergonomic Specialist – Windsor Assembly Plant
In this role, the Ergonomic Specialist will function as an ergonomist, responsible for providing technical ergonomic support for current and future vehicle programs. The specialist will work as part of a cross‑functional team to proactively reduce musculoskeletal injuries and improve overall workplace well‑being, health, and safety. They will utilize ergonomic assessment tools, requirements, and data to identify risk factors and drive improvements with cross-functional teams.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills are required to drive actionable workplace improvements that support employee well‑being and contribute to overall business performance.
- Support day‑to‑day operations as an ergonomics subject‑matter expert, jointly coordinating with local union partner on both current and future programs.
- Perform preliminary and secondary ergonomic evaluations using digital simulation and ergonomic analysis tools to analyze products and processes to ensure ergonomic requirements are met.
- Identify ergonomic risk using standards and data‑driven assessment, communicate issues, and make actionable recommendations effectively to all levels of the organization.
- Evaluate ergonomic concerns, develop corrective actions, and follow‑up on implementation.
- Collaborate and drive remediation of issues with cross‑functional teams, including product design and manufacturing engineers, with data‑driven solutions.
- Support specific projects and productivity initiatives to identify ergonomic risk and improve overall efficiency, quality, and well‑being, health, and safety.
- Support product design and launch activities, as required, with proactive ergonomic expertise, adherence to guidelines, and alignment with Corporate Ergonomics initiatives.
- Document and communicate issues, provide written technical reports, and timely updates to key stakeholders as required to meet deadlines.
- Build relationships with plant Local Joint Health and Safety Committee (LJHSC) Ergonomic Specialist and cross‑functional teams, including Manufacturing, Product, Vehicle Process, WHS, Medical and Plant Production teams to problem‑solve and drive issue resolution.
- Comprehend injury/illness data trends, lessons learned and technical specifications to provide actionable recommendations into product and workplace design, planning and manufacturing initiatives.
- Support local union contractual agreements for coordination of activity, including Local Ergonomic Committee involvement, issue resolution and training, as required.
$80,000 to $95,000 annually.
Basic Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Ergonomics, Human Kinetics, Kinesiology, Human Engineering, or related engineering field.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience applying ergonomic principles and ergonomic analysis tools in a manufacturing or academic setting, including minimum one (1) year of experience using ergonomics analysis tools (e.g., digital human modeling, ergonomic assessment tools).
- Basic understanding of ergonomics or human‑centered design principles.
- Knowledge and/or proficiency in primary and secondary ergonomic analysis tools and software, including NIOSH Lifting Equation, Liberty Mutual Manual Material Handling (Snook tables).
- Experience in Digital Human Modeling software and assessment tools (e.g., Siemens Jack, Process Simulate software, Teamcenter, Vis Mockup, Velocity
EHS). - Microsoft Office and Google Suite application proficiency.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; self‑motivated.
- Excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to interface with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to multi‑task and manage multiple projects within time frames required.
- Automotive assembly experience in a manufacturing union environment preferred.
- Willingness to work across shifts and overtime, as required.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
