Position Summary
The Controls Designer will be responsible for designing and developing electrical and pneumatic schematics for automated manufacturing equipment. Working closely with Mechanical Designers, Controls Engineers, and Shop Floor personnel, the successful candidate will ensure that electrical designs meet applicable codes, project requirements, and production timelines.
This role requires strong AutoCAD Electrical experience, attention to detail, and the ability to support multiple automation projects simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop electrical and pneumatic schematics for automated manufacturing equipment using AutoCAD Electrical.
Create detailed electrical drawings, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and control system documentation.
Work closely with Mechanical Design, Controls Engineering, and Manufacturing teams throughout project development.
Ensure all electrical designs comply with applicable industry standards, safety regulations, and customer requirements.
Support automation, controls, drives, safety systems, and industrial networking projects.
Review and update electrical drawings throughout project execution.
Assist with troubleshooting design issues during machine build and commissioning phases.
Coordinate design changes and ensure documentation is issued accurately and on schedule.
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to design standards and documentation processes.
Maintain organized project files and technical documentation.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical design within automation or manufacturing environments.
Two-year technical diploma or four-year degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field.
Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical.
Experience creating electrical and pneumatic schematics for industrial equipment.
Strong understanding of electrical controls, automation systems, and machine safety requirements.
Excellent organizational and project management skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in the automation industry.
Experience with electrical panel design and industrial control systems.
Knowledge of PLC-based automation systems and industrial networking.
Experience supporting machine build, commissioning, and startup activities.
