The Automation Program Manager is responsible for the successful planning, execution, and delivery of custom industrial automation projects. This customer-facing position coordinates multidisciplinary engineering and technical teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with customer requirements. The successful candidate will manage project schedules, budgets, risks, engineering changes, customer communications, resources, and deliverables throughout the complete project lifecycle—from sales handoff through design, build, integration, installation, commissioning, customer acceptance, and closeout

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Coordinate activities across sales handoffs, mechanical design, electrical design, controls, robotics, machine vision, software, procurement, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning teams.
  • Monitor customer relations and ensure that the customer is receiving consistent communication and support.
  • Coordinate automation projects from sales handoff and project kickoff through design, procurement, build, integration, installation, commissioning, customer acceptance, and project closeout.
  • Review project budgets and program purchase requisitions.
  • Ensure project documentation is complete and maintained, including schedules, meeting minutes, action-item logs, change records, customer approvals, technical documentation, and project closeout records.
  • Establish best practices and standards as it relates to program management.
  • Facilitate PM meetings to review KPIs and ongoing projects.
  • Schedule and run weekly project meetings.
  • Provide on-site support to customers as required.
  • Identify work outside the original project scope, document engineering changes, develop supporting cost and schedule impacts, and coordinate customer approval before additional work proceeds.
  • Set and communicate team objectives, develop, maintain, and communicate detailed project schedules, milestones, resource requirements, deliverables, and critical-path activities.
  • Actively encourages teamwork and collaboration with all members of the team.
  • Communicates effectively and clearly with all team members.
  • Responsible to work effectively with a variety of people to lead projects.
Job Requirements (Education/Experience)
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma is preferred (Engineering, Manufacturing, or Business).
  • A minimum of 3+ years of automation work experience with relevant experience in Program Management.
  • Experience with direct customer negotiations.
  • Demonstrates developed problem-solving skills including soliciting input from team members.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple simultaneous projects involving cross-functional product teams within budgetary and schedule constraints.
  • Demonstrated understanding of industrial automation systems, including PLC controls, robotics, HMIs, machine vision, electrical controls, mechanical systems, tooling, safety systems, and equipment integration.
  • Strong technical and business aptitude.
  • Strong people management skills.
  • Knowledge of Project Management principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Strong verbal, written and communication skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Persistent attention to detail.
  • Able to work and excel under pressure.
Additional Items Of Interest
  • Full-time, permanent position.
  • Reports to the Technical Director
  • Expected travel percentage. Less than 25% outside of the local area
  • Ability to travel within Canada, the United States, and potentially internationally.
  • Valid passport and driver’s license required.
  • Eligibility to enter customer and manufacturing facilities.
  • Occasional evenings, weekends, or extended hours are required during launches and commissioning.
  • Compensation range and benefits: 60K-90K with Benefits
