As the Waste Diversion Coordinator with the Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (EWSWA), you will play a key role in developing and delivering waste diversion initiatives that encourage residents, businesses, schools, and community organizations to reduce waste and increase recycling.
Through education, public engagement, community partnerships, and innovative programming, you will help advance the EWSWA's mission of creating a more sustainable Essex-Windsor region.

The Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (EWSWA) is the governmental agency charged with the responsibility of providing an economical and environmentally conscious integrated solid waste management system for the County of Essex (County) and the City of Windsor (City).
The mission of the EWSWA is to provide programs to manage the solid, non-hazardous waste generated in the County and the City in an environmentally sound manner through processes which include, but are not necessarily limited to reduction, reuse, recycling, composting, and landfilling.
About the Team Reporting to the Manager of Waste Diversion, the Waste Diversion Coordinator works collaboratively with municipal partners, businesses, schools, community organizations, and residents to promote waste diversion initiatives throughout the Essex-Windsor Region.
The role combines community outreach, program coordination, public presentations, data collection and review, and promotional activities to support EWSWA's strategic environmental goals.
What You’ll Do In this role, you will be responsible for: 1.
Waste Diversion Program Coordination Coordinate waste diversion initiatives with various sectors (industrial, commercial, and institutional), residential, etc.).
Coordinate the distribution of EWSWA merchandise for various initiatives.
Support the development, review, and implementation of waste diversion programs.
Public Education and Community Outreach Develop and deliver educational presentations, workshops, and seminars for schools, community organizations, businesses, and special interest groups.
Promote and educate various audiences on waste reduction and diversion initiatives, as well as other activities that support the EWSWA.
Represent the EWSWA at events, meetings, and educational opportunities.
Waste Audits and Program Evaluation Coordinate and/or conduct waste audits with various sectors, contractors, municipalities, etc.
Compile, analyze, and report audit findings while recommending program improvements using appropriate standards.
Maintain waste diversion databases and monitor program performance.
Communications and Promotional Support Assist the Communications Coordinator with developing educational resources, promotional materials, and public awareness campaigns.
Support community initiatives and outreach events (Earth Day, Waste Reduction Week, etc.) where required to support EWSWA’s goals.
Maintain and update EWSWA's social media platforms by creating engaging content that promotes waste diversion programs and community participation.
Program Administration Assist with annual budget preparation and implementation for waste diversion initiatives.
Support the Management with programming and staff coordination for EWSWA activities and projects.
Other Duties as Assigned Support additional departmental projects and initiatives as required What You Bring Education and Commitment to Growth : A three-year advanced diploma Environmental Science, or a related field.
Experience and Expertise:
One (1) to two (2) years of related experience in environmental programs, waste diversion, recycling, sustainability, public education, or community outreach.
Experience working in a municipal or public sector environment is considered an asset.
Skills and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and public speaking skills.
Strong written communication, research, analytical, and organizational skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Experience with social media platforms and public engagement initiatives is considered an asset.
Ability to build collaborative relationships with community partners, schools, businesses, municipalities, and the public.
Other Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid Class “G” Ontario driver’s license and have access to a personal vehicle for work-related travel within Windsor and/or the County of Essex Must provide a Ministry of Transportation Driver Abstract (Uncertified) Must provide a Police Information Check (PIC) document Availability to work weekends and…
