The Assistant Director of Care (ADOC) reports to the Director of Care (DOC) and provides operational and clinical leadership to the nursing team to ensure residents receive safe, high quality, person-centered and culturally safe care in accordance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 and Ontario Regulation 246/22. The ADOC partners with the DOC, interdisciplinary team leaders, and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) structures to strengthen clinical practice, reduce risk, and support a respectful workplace culture.
The ADOC acts as the DOC designate as required and supports effective management of human resources, supplies, and fiscal resources, while leading change, coaching leaders, and fostering accountability for quality outcomes.
Wage Rate
The starting annual salary is $100,000.

Responsibilities

Model and ensure the Residents’ Bill of Rights is upheld in practice, with a person centered lens that respects identity, culture, language, and expressed goals of care.
Maintains legislative compliance with all appropriate legislations;
Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 and Ontario Regulation 246/22, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, etc.
Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to nursing leadership and registered staff to support consistent, resident-focused care practices.
Lead and/or oversee clinical audits, analysis of findings, corrective action plans, and sustainment monitoring (documentation, care planning, medication processes, incident trending).
Support development/revision/implementation of clinical policies and procedures aligned with evidence-informed practice, College of Nurses of Ontario expectations, and Ministry requirements.
Ensure resident rights are actively promoted and embedded in care delivery; model respectful, trauma-informed, culturally safe interactions.
Provide leadership oversight to ensure required programs are implemented, evaluated, improved, and complied with
Ensure program evaluations/audits are completed as required, documented, and translated into action plans, education, and practice change; monitor implementation and outcomes over time.
Facilitating regular program lead huddles to review performance indicators, gaps, and improvement priorities.
Provide visible leadership to support implementation of the home’s IPAC program , including audit readiness, outbreak preparedness, staff education, and continuous improvement expectations.
Support culturally safe IPAC approaches.
Collaborate with the IPAC Lead to address audit findings, implement improvements, and sustain compliance.
Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety expectations (hazard identification, incident reporting, investigations, corrective actions, staff education).
Participate in or lead workplace incident investigations (as assigned), including root cause identification and prevention plans.
Support readiness for external inspections/orders related to health and safety, as required, in collaboration with leadership.
Support development, implementation, and annual review of emergency and evacuation planning; ensure staff/students/volunteers receive emergency plan training during orientation and at least annually.
Coach, mentor, and support Nurse Managers and Home Area Leads and registered staff in clinical leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and professional development.
Participate in hiring processes; support onboarding/orientation; identify learning needs and coordinate education plans.
