Position Description
Under the direct supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (Supervisor) and Assistant Director, Clinical Services, the Behavior Specialist will support the behavioral needs of students with Autism and/or other developmental disorders. This position is designed to support an individual who is completing graduate coursework and/or receiving supervision necessary to take the BCBA exam.

Responsibilities

Assist teachers, clinical staff, and paraprofessionals in developing, monitoring, and/or implementing skill acquisition and behavior reduction assessments and interventions.

Assist the teacher, behavior analysts, para educators and other clinical staff in preparing student materials as instructed.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work and therapy environment.

Provide direct client care in 1:1 and group settings utilizing a combination of intensive teaching and natural environment training arrangements.

Maintain student confidentiality.

Utilize safe & appropriate procedures when interacting with students as prescribed by Safety Care Behavioral Safety Training.

Assist BCBA in conducting various functional assessment methodologies, including, but not limited to, descriptive and analogue functional assessments.

Attend regular supervision meetings with assigned BCBA clinical supervisors and effectively respond to feedback.

Perform other duties related to the BCBA Task List, as directed by BCBA/Supervisor and/or clinical team leader.

Daily data collection and graphing of all required data as directed by teacher, BCBA and/or other clinical staff.

And other duties as assigned.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Must have a strong passion for applied behavior analysis.

Knowledge in the use of technology to collect, analyze, and graph data.

Demonstrate the ability to implement and monitor strategies for changing behavior under the supervision of Board Certified Behavior Analyst.

Assist staff in defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement; teaching new behavior; and implementing strategies for decreasing interfering behavior.

Ability to accept constructive feedback and develop knowledge and skill sets accordingly.

Effective time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at one time.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with clients, co-workers, supervisors, and community members.

Ability to adhere to organizational policies and procedures and abide by code of ethics as indicated by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).

Commitment to maintain client confidentiality and adhere to HIPPA laws.

Commitment to ongoing training and development as it relates to clinical skills, professional development, ethics, and technology, and training in order to perform job responsibilities to required standards.

Ability to interpret and implement written clinical protocols.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Knowledge of de-escalation and crisis management procedures.

Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Must maintain a professional appearance per River Street School/CREC Policy.

Basic &

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, sitting, standing) for extended periods of time.

Must be able to sit on the floor or stand for extended periods of time.

Once certified, must be willing and able to restrain/hold/transport and utilize Safety Care procedures.

Requirements

Must have a four-year bachelor's degree in education, psychology or a related field.

Must be enrolled in an accredited graduate program to obtain their BCBA and/or eligible to pursue (or actively obtaining) necessary supervision hours toward BCBA certification.

Once hired, must successfully make progress in meeting training competencies as identified by the BACB toward application for the BCBA certification.

Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification preferred, including ongoing maintenance of RBT certification (i.e., adequate adherence to supervision and professional and ethical conduct requirements of the BACB).

Experience

Required:

Several years working in the field of Developmental Disabilities/Human Services.

Preferred:
Experience working with school aged children/young adults in a classroom or 1:1 setting.

Preferred:
Experience implementing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.

Related Training

Responsible for completing and maintaining all required certifications and training included, but not limited to:
Annual Safety Care, RBT continuing education, and other related training and in-services as directed by supervisor.
