TFT - Mental Health Educator

Supporting Working Ontarians During Uncertain Economic Times is a special one-year initiative. This Employment Ontario project is funded by the Government of Ontario. It aims to strengthen workforce resilience by delivering workplace mental health education, clinical supports, leadership development, and employer engagement across Ontario. The project is led by CMHA Ontario in partnership with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, CMHA Windsor-Essex County, and CMHA York Region South Simcoe.

In support of the Mission and Mandate of CMHA-WECB, under the direction of the Manager, Community Engagement the Mental Health Educator initiates, develops, organizes and promotes educational presentations and other activities with a focus on mental health promotion, understanding mental illnesses, and suicide prevention and awareness. This position will work closely with other branch services and community partners to develop and carry out initiatives that promote well-being, create a culture of help seeking behavior and ultimately contribute to the goal of making Windsor and Essex County a suicide safer community.

• Seeks opportunities for and responds to organizations, interest groups, and community requests for workshops and training.
• Maintains relationships with a variety of individuals and organizations for ongoing Mental Health Promotion (MHP) needs.
• Research and develop evidence-based, trauma-informed workshops, including PowerPoint presentations, student guides, handouts and promotional materials as needed.
• Disseminates pre and post surveys to determine needs as well as whether needs were met and knowledge transfer complete.
• Regular review and modification of workshops based on best practice.

• Coordinate and facilitate internal and external training programs (e.g., Living Life to the Full, Team Up, safeTALK, ASIST, STEP, Y Mind Teen and Youth, ACT, CBT/DBT-based groups), including scheduling, communication with registrants, preparation of supplies/work orders, facilitation, and providing supportive counselling as needed.
• Manage post-training processes by disseminating surveys, gathering feedback, and preparing/submitting reports to third-party organizations while maintaining required certifications.

• Facilitates educational seminars on grief to the general public.
• Facilitates grief support groups.
• Facilitates training on Normative Grief.
• Provide short-term supportive counselling to individuals.

• Attend community events and health fairs as needed.
• Prepare resource materials.
• Liaise with public, system navigation, resources, etc.

• Provide coaching and guidance to people with lived experience to share their stories for specific events.
• Ensure all file management and reporting functions are maintained in a comprehensive and timely fashion and in accordance with Agency standards, including MHP Dashboard, CRMS and quarterly Service Access Points data.
• Supports the development of the program and administrative reports as requested by the Manager/Director.

• Plans and participates in special events and activities for agency public education campaigns including, but not limited to, Suicide Awareness Month, CMHA Mental Health Week, Mental Illness Awareness Week, and Vigils.
• Acts as a resource for branch staff regarding mental health promotion, finding and/or developing wellness resources for CMHA clients and the community.
• Represents the Agency as directed with government bodies or other groups on suicide, mental illness, bereavement, mental health promotion, and related issues, and serves on various provincial, regional and community boards and committees as requested by the Manager/Director on behalf of the branch.
• Maintains relationships with a variety of community agencies, institutions, local groups and professionals to obtain resources for the program and make community connections.
• Brings forward training needs and takes responsibility for seeking out relevant training opportunities; participates in workshops and seminars as required.
• The incumbent will be required to obtain and maintain relevant certifications through external training programs.
• Remains up to date on mental health legislation, the Mental Health Act, current issues and trends in mental health and best practices.
