St. Francis Memorial Hospital is a 20 bed, fully accredited facility, offering medical, and complex continuing care. Special inpatient services include palliative care, diabetes clinic, telemedicine and Cardiac Rehabilitation. A two bed Hospice is directly down the hall from our inpatient unit. The hospital has an extensive ambulatory care program with over 10,000 emergency visits per year. A six-station satellite hemodialysis unit is located at the St.

Francis Memorial Hospital in Barry’s Bay.

Come join us! As a result of internal movement at SFMH, we are hiring a Permanent Part-Time Dietary Aide within our Dietary Department. Pay Grid: $26.05 - $27.25/hour

The Dietary Aide Assists the Cook in the preparation and serving of food for patients, staff and visitors. Performs a variety of cleaning related duties.

Duties will include but are not limited to:
  • Performs food preparation tasks as assigned by the Cook such as cleaning, peeling, chopping, dicing and slicing food products while keeping waste to a minimum.
  • Follows portion control guidelines when serving food to patients and staff.
  • Assembles and places food items on patient trays following the master menu and food allowances for therapeutic diets.
  • Portions soup and beverages for patients.
  • Assists in the portioning and packaging of the Meals on Wheels Service.
  • Follows patient’s food likes and dislike records when setting up trays.
  • Delivers meal trays to the Medical Unit and the Emergency Room.
  • Restocks the diet kitchen on each patient care unit with nourishments.
  • Follows sanitation practices when preparing and serving food.
  • Serves at the staff food cart.
  • Comply with all department standards for food quality.
  • Completes assigned cleaning duties according to the standard cleaning schedule.
  • Follows procedures for preparing dishes and utensils for cleaning in the dish- washer; washing and proper storage of dishes following the cleaning procedure.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment to the Foot Service Team Leader or the Cook.
  • Follows recycling procedures.
  • Follows WHMIS procedures.
  • Checks and unpacks grocery orders upon arrival and records low stock items.
  • Follows Occupational Health and Safety directives in the application of personal protective equipment.
  • Reports accidents and hazardous situations to the Cook.
  • Contributes to Patient Safety initiatives of the Department.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications:
  • High School graduate or equivalent work experience
  • Food Service Worker Certificate or agreement to obtain (non-sponsored) certification within a negotiated time frame as a condition of employment
  • Knowledge of safety and sanitation practices in food preparation
  • Relevant experience or familiarity in dietary department routines would be an asset
  • Ability to understand written and oral instructions and make simple calculations
  • Ability to work well in a team setting
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment
  • Demonstrates good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to perform the duties within the physical demands of the work area
  • Must be able to accommodate extra hours or shifts
