Job Summary:

Mill/mine employees must be able to proficiently perform a variety of tasks that may include operating crushing and screening machinery, operating vehicles and heavy equipment, and cleaning/shoveling salt. Employees may be assigned to positions on surface (in the mill) or underground (in the mine). Employees will be expected to work on all three shifts (days/afternoons/midnights) and work overtime as required.

** Please note that candidates will be required to successfully complete a background check and medical/audio exam upon offer acceptance. Windsor Salt is a unionized facility (Unifor Local 1959); successful candidates will be required to join the union upon commencement of employment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in operational and safety training
  • Perform routine greasing, oiling, servicing, and cleaning of equipment
  • Make adjustments to assigned equipment and contact maintenance if major repairs are required
  • Perform pre-operational checks on equipment as required by the OHSA
  • Perform tasks such as shoveling, inspecting conveyor belt structure, and general cleanup
  • Operate key pieces of equipment such as crushing and screening, bin and skip, tractors, pick-ups, haul trucks, telehandler, forklifts, front-end loaders, LHDs, mining equipment, etc.
  • Communicate with the hoist operator and supervisors to keep material flowing
  • Fill out inspection sheets, timecards, production, and other reports as required
  • Must be able to train other employees on the safe operation of equipment and proper operating techniques
  • Must be capable of working independently for the duration of the shift
  • Perform other work as assigned
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Previous experience working in a heavy industrial site environment is required
  • Experience operating heavy equipment is strongly preferred
  • Must possess the ability to work safely and in accordance with SOPs and the OHSA
  • Must be alert to any conditions which could pose a safety hazard or result in injury or equipment breakdown or damage, and report or correct such conditions immediately
  • Must be able to read and understand verbal and written instructions
  • Must be a self-starter able to plan and prioritize upcoming tasks
  • Work Environment:

  • Physical effort:
    Physical effort is required when operating equipment, cleaning the yard, or performing any labourer or maintenance duties as assigned
  • Environment:
    Working onsite (possibly outdoors) and wearing appropriate PPE
  • Sensory attention:
    Awareness of surroundings and equipment is required at all times
  • Mental stress:
    Some mental stress may occur if there is an emergency on-site
  • Some work must be done around machinery and equipment that is in motion, as well as around energized power cables
  • Must be able to stand for long periods while operating machinery
  • Must be able to walk for long distances over terrain varying from soft to hard, as well as slick and uneven
  • Must be able to sit in the operator’s seat for long periods while operating the machine and being subject to whole-body vibrations
  • Must be able to use a shovel to clean up spillage and lift 5 feet
  • Must be able to operate various machinery by manipulating multiple hand and foot control levers, sometimes simultaneously
  • Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend a ladder of at least eight (8) feet in length
  • Must be able to work from heights of up to 30 feet
  • Must be able to wear/utilize a full-body harness to perform work as necessary

    The starting wage for this role is $33.89 per hour
