We are seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our team in the unique and vital dual role of  Animal Caretaker & Reception/Adoption Counselor . This part‑time position is at the very heart of our operations, combining hands‑on animal care with essential public engagement. You will be instrumental in ensuring the well‑being of our animals and guiding visitors through their journey to adoption, making a tangible difference in the lives of both pets and people at our facility located at 1375 Provincial Rd, Windsor, ON, Canada.

Key Responsibilities

Provide compassionate and meticulous daily care for a diverse range of animals, including feeding, cleaning, and ensuring a safe, hygienic, and enriching environment.

Diligently observe and monitor the health and behavior of animals, promptly reporting any changes or concerns to veterinary staff.

Assist with essential animal grooming, bathing, and basic medical treatments, ensuring comfort and promoting overall well‑being.

Safely and humanely assist with animal restraint for examinations, medical procedures, or transport when necessary.

Offer a warm and empathetic welcome to all visitors, answering inquiries, providing information, and directing the map appropriately.

Skillfully counsel potential adopters, guiding them through the adoption process, matching them with suitable companions, and facilitating meaningful connections.

Accurately process adoptions, donations, and other transactions using our software systems and handling money responsibly.

Maintain thorough and accurate records for animal care, adoptions, and public interactions, ensuring data integrity.

Communicate clearly, kindly, and professionally with the public, staff, and volunteers, providing exceptional customer service.

Proactively identify and resolve concerns or issues, contributing to a positive experience for both animals and people.

Requirements and Qualifications

A genuine passion for animal welfare and a strong commitment to the mission of the Windsor Essex County Humane Society.

Completed high school education.

0–2 years of experience in animal care, customer service, or a related field, with a willingness to learn and grow.

Exceptional customer service and communication skills, demonstrating empathy, patience, and clarity in all interactions.

Basic animal handling and care knowledge, including an understanding of animal behavior and safety protocols.

Proficiency in basic computer software navigation and accurate record‑keeping.

A responsible and organized approach to money handling and administrative tasks.

Strong problem‑solving abilities and the capacity to remain calm and effective in a fast‑paced environment.

Ability to work part‑time, 24–32 hours per week, with flexibility to accommodate shelter needs.

Fluency in English is required. Additional languages are an asset.

Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods, and safely hand‑lead animals of varying sizes and temperaments.
