Trains other Package Handlers (PHs) on loading, unloading, palletizing, and scanning techniques to ensure efficient and safe movement of packages through the operation. Responsible for the physical loading, unloading and/or sorting of packages by hand, including lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying and placing in a safe and efficient manner. Package Handlers may be assigned to or rotate through various areas and positions such as Loader, Unloader, Palletizer, Scan Weigh and Key (SWAK), Quality Assurance (QA), Facer, Switcher, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Training new PHs in unloading, loading, palletizing, carrying, smalls handling, SWAK, and non‑conveyable package handling techniques.
Providing training to other PHs as needed based on management direction.
Providing feedback on proper package handling techniques.
Reinforcing dock safety standards among peer PHs.
Understanding and demonstrating all necessary processes and procedures.
Updating managers on conditions during sorting to assist operational efficiency decisions.
Assisting in the implementation of new package handling procedures and techniques.
Regularly loading/unloading, palletizing, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling packages while training others.
Using hand‑to‑surface methods for all package handling.
Loading and unloading packages onto/from delivery vehicles, trailers, pallets, conveyor system carts, and load gratings.
Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling packages continuously for the approximate shift of 3‑5 hours, with potential to work one or more shifts each day.
Determining the appropriate conveyor system by scanning packages, reading labels and charts, verifying numbers and memorizing information, and sorting packages accordingly.
Performing other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION
None
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
No experience required; six (6) months of experience as a PH with Fed Ex Ground preferred.
KNOWLEGE
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to train multiple peer PHs simultaneously.
Ability to understand and follow instruction regarding work duties and safety methods.
Ability to discern numbers and information to sort packages correctly.
Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand‑held scanners, chutes and unloading devices.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a fast‑paced team environment.
PHs operating switching equipment must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). CONDITIONS
Work in hot and cold temperatures.
Work in an environment with loud noise.
Be able to lift and carry between 10 and 50 pounds.
Travel should not be required.
SHIFT AND SALARY
Shift: 7:30 am to 10:30 am Monday to Friday.
