Job Summary

The Activities Coordinator leads the planning and development of activity programming, ensuring activities are conducted safely and effectively by staff. The role serves as a resource for employees, residents, and families, addresses concerns around activities, and establishes relationships with outside community partners for a positive experience. Activities are planned around residents’ care plans, assess audience needs, and develop programs that meet those needs.

The coordinator administers the monthly activity calendar, elicits resident input, and keeps activities organized and upbeat, following state requirements such as music, craft, and spiritual activities. Participation in activities (e.g., fishing, nature walks, pet therapy, music therapy) supports residents and maintains their dignity and identity. The coordinator may assist with simple nursing procedures and transport residents to and from rooms.

Oversight of programming effectiveness includes providing feedback to enhance quality. Self‑direction, accountability, and minimal supervision are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning and development of activity programs.
  • Ensure activities are safe, effective, and meet resident care plans.
  • Assess resident needs and develop appropriate programs.
  • Administer and maintain the monthly activity calendar.
  • Gather resident input and keep activities organized.
  • Participate in activities such as fishing, nature walks, pet therapy, music therapy.
  • Assist with simple nursing procedures and resident transportation.
  • Oversee programming effectiveness and provide feedback for improvement.
  • Work autonomously with high accountability and minimal supervision.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent (required).
  • Two years of experience in a related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of working with diverse resident demographics; experience in social services, creative activities, or long‑term care desired.
  • Eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional by a recognized accrediting body.
  • Successful completion of an accredited training program approved by state preferred.
  • Current Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification or enrollment in a healthcare‑related program preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Depending on location, the role may require a motor vehicle report, proof of a valid driver’s license, and medical qualification for driving functions.
