ISO New England is the independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. We are at the forefront of New England’s ongoing transition to clean energy.

The primary role of this position is to provide technical leadership, management oversight and stakeholder support in planning for a reliable bulk electric power system in New England and Northeastern North America. This is achieved by planning, controlling, coordinating, and managing the reliability assessment process under the ISO-NE Tariff.

How you will make an Impact
  • Managing, monitoring progress, evaluating performance, and leading the activities of Transmission Planning engineers.
  • Ensuring compliance with NERC, NPCC, and ISO planning standards and requirements.
  • Administering and coordinating regional reliability studies and processes, including Needs Assessments and Solutions Studies
  • Reviewing New England transmission owners’ local system plans, and coordination of those plans with ISO-NE-led regional planning processes
  • Reviewing New England transmission owners’ proposals and any associated studies
  • Leading development, testing, and maintenance of automation tools used in System Planning studies
  • Developing and presenting materials for the Planning Advisory Committee and supporting development of the annual Regional System Plan.
  • Conducting analyses to support resolution of NEPOOL committee and regional transmission issues.
  • Developing and recommending new business processes, and periodic review of existing business processes
  • Updating and developing Planning Procedures
  • Supporting the preparation and control of the Transmission Planning budget.
What we are looking for
  • Bachelor of Science in Electric Power Engineering or Electrical Engineering is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of electric power system network analysis, transmission planning and assessment techniques, and transmission system reliability standards.
Desirable not required:
  • Master’s degree in Electric Power Engineering or Electrical Engineering or an MBA.
  • Supervisory experience in the power systems field.
  • Registered Professional Engineer.
  • Ten to fifteen years of experience in electric utility system planning/operations planning.
  • Knowledge of ISO-NE/NEPOOL organization and processes.

The expected salary range for this position is $193,000 - $233.000 per year.
