Schedule:
Full‑time (35 hrs), First Shift, Monday‑Friday (in‑office and telework days)
The Department of Aging and Disability Services (ADS), Bureau of Rehabilitation Services (BRS), is seeking a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor 1 to provide vocational rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities.
Responsibilities- Providing vocational rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities
- Dealing with the public and conducting community outreach
- Managing referrals from intake, community organizations, school systems, and other sources
- Conducting intakes, eligibility determination, assessments, career counseling, and individualized services
- Collaborating with schools, families, employers, and community agencies to facilitate transition to employment
- Building relationships with employers, educating them on benefits, and securing placement and training opportunities
- Preparing written reports, case histories, and coordinating community referral sources
- Mediating and delivering presentations, administering vocational tests as needed
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation counseling, disability terminology, and community resources
- Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to relate to diverse cultural and economic backgrounds, organize time, manage workload, analyze information, maintain counseling relationships, and write reports
- Master’s degree from an accredited college in vocational rehabilitation counseling, psychology, special education, or related behavioral or social sciences
- Completion of all degree requirements before appointment
- Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license or
- Experience working with high‑school students or adults with disabilities
- Experience providing outreach and presentations to community agencies
- Experience with electronic case management system, Outlook, and video‑conferencing platforms
- Experience working with diverse or underserved populations
- Experience managing competing priorities while meeting deadlines
- Experience communicating with internal and external stakeholders
- Must obtain educational qualification for Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor 1 and meet current national standard for Certified Rehabilitation Counselor®
