About the role
Senior Legal Counsel, Employment at Centrica provides commercially focused, risk-based specialist employment advice to all UK and Ireland business units and group functions across the Centrica group. This position reports to the Head of Legal, Employment and supports a junior team member.
LocationWindsor office (twice‑weekly until December 2026) and Reading office (from December 2026) with flexible first working arrangements. Candidates must be comfortable commuting.
Responsibilities- Advise the Centrica People and Employee Relations teams on employment law across day‑to‑day matters, including complex grievances and disputes.
- Liaise with and manage external lawyers (UK and international) for high quality, cost‑efficient support for Employment Tribunal cases.
- Work with Reward and People Operations on terms and conditions of employment, HR policies, pay transparency, benefits and incentive schemes.
- Support the team in preparing for Employment Rights Act 2025 changes and build HR capability through education, training and support.
- Provide advice to Legal Commercial, M&A, Procurement and People teams on non‑contentious employment aspects of strategic business arrangements, including tenders, outsourcings, reorganisations and redundancies.
- Advise the Industrial Relations team on trade union related issues including industrial action, facilities time and collective bargaining.
- Explore and engage with Technical colleagues on AI tools to support the Employment team and participate in LRECS AI trials.
- Build relationships with key stakeholders in People and the wider business and actively engage in LRECS initiatives.
- Qualified solicitor with UK or equivalent practising certificate and significant relevant PQE.
- Employment law specialist with experience delivering pragmatic, commercially sound advice on large‑scale outsourcings with TUPE implications.
- Ability to work autonomously, manage competing deadlines and operate at pace.
- Strong stakeholder management, drafting, communication and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to explain complex legal principles to a variety of internal stakeholders.
- Willingness and experience to deliver occasional training.
- Genuine interest in technology and how it might support the work of the Employment team.
