Role Overview

Join Centrica Technology as a Domain Architect – SMART, a key member of the Retail pillar focused on modernising our platforms across metering services, financial metering and meter asset management. You will define and maintain the target architecture, drive reuse of shared metering platforms, and shape decisions that impact customer, regulatory, commercial and operational outcomes.

Location

UK‑based hybrid role with occasional travel to site.

Responsibilities
  • Define and maintain the target architecture for the Smart Metering domain, spanning metering services, financial metering and meter asset management.
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture guardrails, strategic platform roadmaps (e.g., AMT Meter Flow/Market Flow, Callisto, Amethyst, SAP Microgen) and industry regulations.
  • Promote adoption of shared metering platforms and services, distinguishing when Smart Metering should differentiate versus standardise.
  • Challenge unnecessary complexity and ensure designs are proportionate to the value delivered.
  • Champion platform reuse across the metering ecosystem, guiding teams on when to use existing services, extend components or build new solutions.
  • Identify duplication across field operations tooling, asset repositories and data flows, and drive convergence onto strategic platforms.
  • Contribute to reference architectures for the end‑to‑end metering lifecycle (install → commission → operate → maintain → settle).
  • Ensure solutions comply with enterprise guardrails and regulatory requirements (e.g., GSOP, MHHS, SMETS).
  • Design with a whole‑system view across the full smart metering lifecycle, considering integration, data quality, security, resilience, settlement impacts and downstream consumption.
  • Validate designs against operational realities such as engineer processes, asset data capture, network variability and industry timings.
  • Provide balanced analysis for build‑vs‑buy decisions in areas such as commissioning, testing, remote operations, or financial metering reconciliation.
  • Act as a trusted advisor across Smart Metering Operations, Billing, Market Operations, Engineering Leads and Technology Leaders, influencing without authority and ensuring robust, value‑driven architecture.
  • Coach Solution Architects and engineers, raising the maturity of architecture across metering services, asset management and market interaction.
  • Promote standards, platform reuse, quality and continuous improvement, embedding architectural clarity and consistency across delivery teams.
  • Provide ongoing mentoring and guidance to architects and engineers, supporting capability uplift through design reviews, knowledge sharing and continuous refinement of metering patterns, principles and guardrails.
Qualifications
  • Experience delivering solution and domain architectures across multiple projects or platforms.
  • Strong understanding of business processes and their alignment with technology solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to engage technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to plan and implement mid‑ to long‑term technology roadmaps.
  • Experience with architectural governance and compliance in a large organisation.
  • Demonstrates safe and responsible use of AI tools, with clear knowledge of when AI use is appropriate and strong awareness of accuracy, bias and compliance.
  • Proficiency in designing and reusing prompt templates to support consistent, high‑quality workflow outputs.
  • Strong ability to recognise higher‑risk scenarios and escalation to governance or security as needed.
  • Experience with enterprise AI copilots, knowledge assistants and AI‑enhanced productivity tools.
Benefits
  • Generous market salary and a 15% Employee Energy Allowance.
  • Comprehensive pension plan and fully‑funded company healthcare plan.
  • 25‑day holiday allowance plus public holidays, with the option to purchase up to five additional days.
  • Flexible benefits such as tech treats, eco‑friendly car leases and travel insurance.
